Watch the Thrilling Trailer for Janelle Monáe's New Album Dirty Computer

Entertainment

Can you believe it’s been nearly five years since Janelle Monáe’s last album came out?

Since 2013’s Electric Lady she’s been busy lighting up the big screen in movies like Moonlight and Hidden Figures, plus she’s running her label Wondaland Records (home to artists like Jidenna and St. Beauty) and released the hottest song about yoga to ever exist. And we can’t forget she was also the only person at the recent Grammys who actually called attention to the Time’s Up movement.

But the musician/actor/cyborg is making her return to music with a new album called Dirty Computer, which has no release date yet. And because this is Janelle Monáe, the album has an accompanying “film narrative” starring Tessa Thompson. A teaser for the mini-movie, which looks like a dystopian thriller filled with nightclubs and riots, will air before select screenings of Black Panther this weekend, Pitchfork reports. But you can catch the action-packed trailer below for what Monáe is calling an “emotion picture.”
