We Seriously Don't Need True Detective Now That Amy Adams Will Be on HBO Uncovering Murders

Entertainment

After the success of Big Little Lies, HBO is hitching their wagon on gritty, women-led crime dramas that will definitely keep me up at night staring at my ceiling trying to piece together the mystery. The latest is Sharp Objects.

Based on the book by Gillian Flynn (of Gone Girl fame) and created by Marti Noxon (UnREAL), the series stars Amy Adams as reporter Camille Preaker, who comes back to her dreary hometown to cover the murders of two girls. While trying to get her story together, she “finds herself identifying with the young victims a bit too closely,” which sounds like TROUBLE!!!

The trailer for the show, out in July, looks spooky (why does a shot of a flashlight roaming around a dark forest still terrify me, a grown woman?), and I’m surprisingly grateful for a big-budget drama like this that isn’t led by troubled men and leaves women characters pushed to the margins as wives, mistresses, and dead ladies covered in plastic wrap.
