Mariah Carey tends to be cagey in interviews and on her own reality show, but on Sunday night’s Watch What Happens Live!, she was apparently feeling extra festive and gave us an early Christmas present by revealing her opinions on several of her contemporaries. Spoiler: They were not particularly kind unless the singer in question humbled herself to Carey by approaching her (generally by attending one of her shows)!
This all went down during a game of Does She Know Her, named after Carey’s legendary J.Lo shade (“I don’t know her”).
On Lady Gaga, Mariah said: “She came to my show, she was very sweet…and we had a nice conversation.”
Ariana Grande: When asked, “Do you know her?” Mariah gave a curt, “No.” When Andy Cohen asked if she felt that Ariana’s early work was an homage to her, Mariah’s chest started heaving the heave of a raising blood pressure and answered, “I don’t know when early in the career was…I don’t know…honestly I’m really not familiar, I listen to hip-hop more than I listen to pop music.”
