Whitney Cummings To Star In HBO Pilot Based On Maureen Dowd's Book

Latest

Vulture is reporting that HBO has ordered a pilot based on a Maureen Dowd book that will star Whitney Cummings. The book in question is 2005’s “ruckus raisingAre Men Necessary? When Sexes Collide.

The show is being described as a relationship comedy about “modern relationships that focuses on human nature and social construction using documentary elements and appearances from experts to help the characters understand the biological basis of their behavior.”

If you don’t remember the book or simply didn’t read it, I recommend checking out its most helpful Amazon reviews, as they contain enlightening lines like:

Reading this book was like reading pseudo-intellectual newspaper or magazine editorials from end to end. So, the question in the title isn’t deconstructed, it is prodded at, and then left unanswered.

Whitney Cummings has yet to prove herself as a television actor who can bring in a network audience (though she’s done quite well as a co-creator), so maybe all she’s needed is the freedom of cable. Maybe. I guess we’ll see when HBO asks the eternal question: Is A Full Season Order Necessary?
