Winter Birds at My Office Window Feeder, Ranked
All photos by Dave Levitan Splinter
It’s been a rough month. As such, here is a ranking of the few species of birds that have been frequenting a new, clear bird feeder I recently mounted outside my office window. There are not all that many birds that hang out in a mid-Atlantic city in January and February, so certainly (hopefully) this ranking would change come spring and migratory season. For now, the list stands as follows:
1. Tufted titmouse. Adorable. Perfect little bird, no notes.

2. White-breasted nuthatch. The most frequent visitors so far. Messy little dudes, flinging seeds everywhere.

3. Carolina chickadee. A bit shy, and only occasional visitor. Nuthatches seem to chase them off.

4. House sparrow
[they are very fast]
5. Northern cardinal. Still figuring this whole deal out.
