Women Producers in Hollywood Unite to Form New Company

Between the two of them, producers Alison Owen and Debra Hayward have a long string of impressive credits in Hollywood. Now, the women have decided to join forces to form a new production company focusing on television and film projects.

Their new company, Monumental Pictures, will combine the talents of two of the most successful women producers working in filmmaking today. Owen is a producer with such films under her belt as Saving Mr Banks, The Giver, Jane Eyre, The Other Boleyn Girl and Temple Grandin. Hayward’s producing credits incuce Les Misérables films including Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, Atonement, Bridget Jones’s Diary, Pride And Prejudice and Atonement. Both women are based in the UK. The both worked together on 1998’s Elizabeth starring Cate Blanchett. Now I’m really excited about seeing what they come up with.

According to Deadline, Owen said they both got tired of trying to go after the same projects and material against each other. “We’re both exhausted from competing with each other,” she said. “Ultimately, I could see the only way to beat Debra was to join her.”

As depressing as some of the news out of Hollywood concerning women has been lately, it’s a good sign to see powerful women in the business are finding new ways to break the glass ceiling.
