Yay! Ellen Is Developing an NBC Sitcom with a Lesbian Lead

Latest

Ellen DeGeneres is developing a new sitcom featuring a lesbian lead for NBC! You know, because she doesn’t have quite enough on her plate, what with hosting the 2014 Oscars, having a successful daytime talk show and all.

It’s been 16 years since DeGeneres came out on her sitcom Ellen and became an immediate gay icon as one of the most high profile lesbians to ever appear on TV. (It’s also been 16 years since the comedian broke ground by successfully becoming the only person to ever enjoy working alongside Jeremy Piven — not a flashy accomplishment, but an accomplishment all the same.)

According to Deadline, the new sitcom — which DeGeneres is developing alongside 2 Broke Girls‘ Liz Feldman — “centers on a lesbian and her straight male best friend who get pregnant just as he meets and marries the love of his life.”

As of now, it’s unclear who will star.

This will be one of two sitcoms by A Very Good Production (Ellen’s production company) that’s being developed for NBC. The other stars Ellen-favorites Sophia Grace and Rosie as two little girls who inevitably grate on your nerves.
