Gavel slams, A-listers in distress, the flaws in the justice system—celebrity lawsuits have it all. It’s the drama you love to see, starring the people you love to hate, and sometimes we just need a rest from the exhausting court of public opinion to consult an actual court of law.
In recent weeks, we’ve witnessed the conclusion of the endless It Ends With Us lawsuit and the opening arguments of the Kylie Jenner housekeeper case—both of which pale in comparison to the reigning champion of celebrity trials: the Gwyneth Paltrow skiing trial. (Sorry, not up for debate). But this week, we turn your attention to a new incendiary matter:
The Case of the Missing Wig Payments (and Defamatory Wig Comments)
The Plaintiff: TheeBellaBrand Wigs LLC
The Defendant: Ice Spice
The Claim: TheeBellaBrand Wigs—whose lux lace fronts can be seen on the heads of Nicki Minaj, Doechii, Sexy Redd, and more—is suing Ice Spice for $400k in lost business opportunities and punitive damages, alleging that Ice Spice agreed to purchase 25 custom-made wigs from the business for around $20,000 but never actually paid. Additionally, the plaintiff alleges that the defendant was talking shit about the wigs on social media, hence the punitive damages.
The Defense: The plaintiff is being “overly dramatic,” Your Honor.
In a motion filed in April, Ice claimed that this was just a simple breach-of-contract case and that TheeBellaBrand provided no evidence that she had bashed the company online, insisting they are just trying to put “public pressure” on her. However, on Sunday, TMZ reported that Ms. Spice was ordered to sit for a deposition under oath later this year, alongside two additional witnesses, should the case not be settled. And it looks like it won’t, since the TheeBellaBrands attorney told TMZ, “This is what entitlement looks like. Fame is not immunity from the law. Ice Spice will be held accountable.” DUN DUN….
After reviewing the facts of the case, my personal opinion is that the plaintiff is indeed being overly dramatic. Ice Spice should just pay for the wigs so the court can get back to more pressing matters, like vindicating Blake Lively.
Come back next week to find out if Kim Kardashian will face charges for her role in the SKIMS cocaine smuggling ring, or to find out whatever the hell is going on with Rebel Wilson. Celebs love to sue and be sued, so I’m sure we’ll have no shortage of material.
