Couples Scrambling to Get Married On 12/13/14

Latest

In what will hopefully be the last time we will have to hear about something like this, couples are clamoring to get married on December 13th of this year so they can secure the wedding date of 12/13/14.

According to a poll by David’s Bridal, 20,000 couples in the US will marry on 12/13/14, compared to only 7,200 couples who wed on the same day last year. Coupled with the fact that 12/13/14 falls on a Saturday, it’s going to be wedding clusterfuck central up in hurr.

Jennifer Krysiak, 31, who works as an educational director of a preschool in Queens, was inspired by a friend who married on 7/7/07.
“I wanted to have a cool wedding date, too,” Krysiak says. “I always wanted a winter wedding, so I originally picked Dec. 6. But that wasn’t cool, and when I found out that 12/13/14 fell on a Saturday, I knew I had to pick it. We started planning as soon as we got engaged last September.”

Cool.

If you are one of the giddy couples hoping to wed on the date, I hope you planned that shit waaaaay in advance or have beaucoup money to drop on literally everything.

“We’ve had to turn a lot of people away,” says Julie Miller, the production manager at The Foundry, a popular venue in Long Island City (and where the character Jessa was married on HBO’s “Girls”). “We’ve gotten 20 requests for the day since we booked it [a few months back], and December is generally a quiet month for us.”
New York-based DJ company Scratch Weddings says they’ve seen a 300 percent increase in requests over the same weekend last winter.

Now, we’ve seen this scramble for a “cool” wedding date before. There was 7/7/07, 8/8/08, (which was also the opening ceremony for the Beijing Olympics) 9/9/09, 10/10/10, 11/11/11, 9/10/11, 10/11/12, 11/12/13 YOU GET THE IDEA.

Let’s all just feel lucky that our calendar doesn’t have a 13th month.
