Crystal Renn Nabs Her First Vogue Cover

Latest

Vogue Mexico is the first edition of Vogue to feature Crystal Renn on its cover. I dig the Gia-Carangi-1970s vibe of that hair and that BLUE EYESHADOW.

Renn has been on the interior pages of various editions of Vogue, including American Vogue — in the “Shape” issue, when she was a little larger. She’s also shot numerous editorials for Vogue Paris. (Renn worked with regularity for that magazine under recently departed editor-in-chief Carine Roitfeld.)

Renn was set to be on a cover of Vogue Italia, but (as she described in her 2009 memoir Hungry) during the editorial shoot, she couldn’t fit into the dress the magazine wanted for the front. So Steven Meisel shot the cover with another model instead.

The full spread, shot by David Roemer, is in Mexican Vogue‘s April issue. The brightly-colored styling, as well as the effort Renn has put into her poses, is pretty fun even if the white-background mise en scène is pretty average.

In any case, it’s nice to see Renn — who’s been on the cover of international editions of Harper’s Bazaar and Elle — finally break the Vogue barrier.
