I Demand That You Listen to This Perfect Carly Rae Jepsen Remix

Entertainment

I really, really, really, really, really wish this was the radio edit! Recycle Culture is Erik Moline’s DIY project, whose aesthetic is summed up nicely in the title of a 2013 single: “Blank Babe Blissed Out in the House of Surreality.” As it were, that phrase also sums up Carly Rae Jepsen’s musical sweet spot (as well as a lot of today’s pop landscape, and most of my 2015 goals).

Previous to this take on “I Really Like You,” Recycle Culture put out an absolutely incredible remix of Taylor Swift’s “Wildest Dreams,” flipping it into a vaporous, supersonic Postal Service blips-and-waves daydream; in a similar manner, this Carly Rae remix doesn’t attempt to suppress the extreme chemical sweetness of the original track, but rather puts it up against a forest of churning electronica, where all that sugar gets a few more chords to push against, a lot more things to play with. I DEMAND YOU LISTEN. It feels like spring!

(Edited to add: track’s been taken down on YouTube, you can listen here.)
