I Love These 'Choose Your Own Adventure' Vines

There are probably a million ways to waste time and be mildly entertained on the Internet. But these “Choose Your Own Adventure” Vines have quickly become my favorite.

The “Choose Your Own Adventure” book series, which has been for more than 35 years, is getting the digital treatment in a rather fun way. Mashable has the details on how one developer, a fan of the series as a kid, created the Vine version:

Ian Padgham, a former video producer at Twitter (Vine’s parent company), has created the first “AdVINEture” series, stories within Vine that allow users to star in their own adventure by jumping from video to video. Padgham’s first creation, which he shared in April, is simply called “The AdVINEture,” and consists of 32 different steps users can take while choosing their path.

The videos include a short paragraph where viewers can select where they want to go next by clicking on a bolded link. For example, if the user chooses to enter a hotel, they may face the decision: “Do you want to Sneak In To 606 or Knock On 606 ?” According to Padgham, the hardest part of creating The AdVINEture was collecting all the different account names used to link between different stages of the adventure.

Padgham’s efforts aren’t the first time CYOA has been adapted for technological platforms. Twitter, YouTube, and Facebook have all been used to create CYOA games, but Padgham appears to be one of the first — if not the very first — to do so on Vine.
There’s even a Star Wars-themed version:
