Ikea Is Pretty Sure You Need a Puppy to Go With That Billy Bookcase

Latest

As part of a clever campaign, animal rescue organizations are partnering with Ikea and other furniture stores to promote adoption. Because what that Ektorp really needs is a floppy-eared puppy slumbering smack in the middle.

If they can convince 20-somethings to buy those lantern candleholders and silk flowers, I’m 100% positive those Swedes can get some of these dogs adopted.

Business Insider reports (via The Dodo) that the program got started in Singapore, in partnership with a group called Home for Hope. They photographed dogs from several shelters, created cardboard standups, and scattered them all over Ikea’s showrooms. Interested shoppers could scan a QR code for more info about adoption and the pets available. This video shows how it works:

Ikea has also expanded the program to its store in Tempe, Arizona. “We thought it was a perfect way to show people what their home would look like with a pet in it,” said the branch’s marketing manager. All six pups originally featured so far have been adopted. How could you say no to this face?

They should expand this to every Ikea in America. Also, bookstores should launch the kitty equivalent. Shelter pets for everyone!
