Jennifer Lawrence Looks Lovely, Slightly Befuddled in New Dior Ads
LatestDior is rolling out Jennifer Lawrence’s new campaign for Dior, shot by Patrick Demarchelier and coming soon to a fashion glossy near you. The images are simple but eye-catching, though our girl JLaw looks a little, well, abstracted in both, a moment of “huh” caught for eternity.
According to Women’s Wear Daily, it’s Lawrence’s third campaign with the brand. As part of the launch, she also did a charming, chatty little black-and-white video about the Dior gown she wore at the Oscars. “They need to make it more accessible for stairs, in my opinion,” she notes:
“Is it just me, or does the person staring back at you more closely resemble a pre-pubescent 12-year-old boy than the strong, broad-shouldered, post-pubscent Jennifer Lawrence we know in movies like Silver Linings Playbook and The Hunger Games?”
That’s harsh, given it’s a deliberately androgynous look and the unfamiliarity seems partly due to the fact she isn’t usually shot at quite that angle. But Lawrence does look less robust than usual, like they whittled down her shoulders. Compare to these shots from Dior magazine, for instance.
Still, there’s something very true to JLaw’s public persona about the ads. No matter what sorts of retouching tricks are at work here, there’s still a look in her eye like she’s pondering the mysteries of Doritos and science ovens. Plus: into that bag, tbh.
