Jurors Don't Want Occupy Protestor to Go to Jail

Latest

Cecily McMillan, the Occupy activist who was convicted of felony assault of a police officer on Tuesday, now has some unlikely advocates. Nine out of 12 jurors have written a letter to the judge asking that she not get jail time.

As reported by The Guardian, jurors were surprised that McMillan could get up to 7 years in prison, which they found out when they were allowed to research sentencing guidelines after being dismissed. Therefore: “We feel that the felony mark on Cecily’s record is punishment enough for this case and that it serves no purpose to Cecily or to society to incarcerate her for any amount of time.”
