Malala Yousufzai, the Taliban’s 14-Year-Old Shooting Victim, May Get Airlifted Out of Pakistan

Malala Yousufzai, the 14-year-old Pakistani girl who was shot by the Taliban for having the audacity to promote women’s education, will be getting some extra-special first-aide if her condition worsens. According to the AP, the United Arab Emirates plans to send a specially-outfitted aircraft to ferry Yousufzai abroad for treatment in case doctors decide that she needs more specialized care.

Visas are being finalized and, according to Islamabad’s Ambassador to the UAE Jamil Ahmed Khan, six doctors will come along for the ride. As of right now, Yousufzai is recovering in a military hospital, making what her doctors are describing as “slow and steady progress” after a bullet entered her head before traveling close to her spine. Doctors also confirmed on Saturday that, though Yousufzi remains on a ventilator, she was able to move her legs and hands after her sedatives were reduced.
