Everyone has their own personal journey to traverse and internal demons to battle, but nothing induces an eye roll quite like some cryptic, self-mythologizing message from someone who just got wasted and arrested for trying to punch strangers.

In this case, it’s Shia LaBeouf, who, for sure, has had a tumultuous few days at Mardi Gras in New Orleans. After getting kicked out of a dive bar on Tuesday and trying to beat up random bar patrons, he got himself beaten up and then charged with two counts of small battery. About two hours after TMZ broke that story, Page Six reported that he and his wife Mia Goth have actually been separated for the past year. This was all after The Hollywood Reporter wrote that he’d spent the weekend drunk, obnoxious, and “terrorizing” The Big Easy. A source told TMZ on Wednesday that Mia is “concerned” about him.

The formerly sober star’s response to all this? “Free me,” he tweeted Wednesday morning. Okay. Also, to be clear, he was back on Bourbon Street showing off his arrest papers on Tuesday night

He’s not a big tweeter, but his last tweet before that was on Feb.15—seemingly in the midst of all his havoc-wreaking—in which he posted a not-so-flattering selfie wearing sunglasses and a heap of Mardi Gras disco ball necklaces. A visual clue, perhaps, that should have alerted him that it was time to go home and go to bed.
