'Women Get Paid Exactly What They're Worth' According to Fox News Host

Latest

Fox News host Martha MacCallum, speaking on behalf of all women, said on her show that women actually don’t want the government to create policies that ensure equal pay for equal work because women are already earning “exactly what they’re worth.”

MacCallum moderated a debate on her show regarding “the so-called war on women” following Obama’s State of the Union address this week in which the president received an standing ovation for saying that women shouldn’t make less money than men for doing the same job.

Fox News thought it would be a good idea to have two men debate about equality for women: Alan Colmes and Tucker Carlson.

Taking a page from Rand Paul’s book, Carlson is evidently against the idea of equal-pay policies because it’s not good for men. “The numbers don’t lie,” he said. “The losers in the Obama economy have been men.”

Carlson insisted that women actually make more money than men “if you factor in the time that women take off voluntarily to raise children.” Oh, and women “also live longer.” So they have a chance to make up the difference when they’re in their 80s? Forget equal-pay laws. Women can just wait until men die off!

Carlson is simply sick of how democrats give preferential treatment to women. “This is a constituency the White House panders to relentlessly.”

Carlson is also sick of how republicans give preferential treatment to women. “I think the republican pandering to women is nauseating.”

I don’t know if I’d call it “pandering,” but the attention that republicans give to women is certainly nauseating.

Here’s a sampling of this debate:

Carlson: “You can disagree with the woman’s policy and not be against all women.”
Colmes: “Of course.”
Carlson: “No, no, no, you can’t though.”

If there was ever an example of someone being contrary just for the sake of it.

But let’s back up to Carlson’s insistence that women “voluntarily” take time off to have children. Let’s be clear here. If the GOP really had their way, there’d be nothing voluntary about pregnancy at all. Using the concept of choice with regards to pregnancy to drive home a point about why women don’t deserve equal pay is pretty rich.

MacCallum stepped in to add her two cents:

I think most women do not want to be treated as sort of a special class of citizen. They want to go every day, they want to get paid for being a professional for doing their job really well, and they don’t want to be treated like some special group of people who have to be given a little special handout just to make sure they’re OK…Women get paid exactly what they’re worth.

When Colmes pointed out that it’s, in fact, not “voluntary” time off because “women get pregnant, men don’t,” Carlson laughed at him.

“You’re mad at biological reality here,” Carlson said.

So it comes down to biology, then, why women don’t deserve equal pay. I like when Fox News pundits are accidentally super honest.
