12-Year-Old Boy Delivers His Baby Brother

Latest

Here’s a tale that’s definitely worthy of at least a I Didn’t Know I Was In Labor TLC special: Danielle Edward woke up at 2 a.m. to find she’d entirely skipped preliminary labor pains and her baby was already crowning. Edwards couldn’t move, but she realized her 12-year-old son Gaelan had snuck out of bed to watch TV and called him into the room. She says:

“I said, ‘Gaelan, when I push next, I need you to grab the baby by the shoulders and I need you to pull him out.’ And he – just like by instinct, I couldn’t even believe it – grabbed the baby by the shoulders, with the head on his wrist, and eased him out, kind of wriggled him from side to side, and pulled him onto the bed.”

Gaelan then cut the umbilical cord using scissors and a clamp used to seal plastic bags and helped his mom push out the placenta. He says he acquired his medical expertise by flipping through his mom’s pregnancy books and watching a lot of TV.
