A Cupcake Coif & Other Daring 'Dos From The Huge Hair Show
LatestThe Bronner Bros Hair Show — which is in its 64th year — came to a close on Tuesday, with an elaborate “Koi Fish” style taking the top prize in the Fantasy Competition. The show — snippets of which can be seen in Chris Rock’s documentary, Good Hair — attracts about 60,000 stylists, hair enthusiasts and exhibitors who work with black hair. Although weaves, wigs and extensions are a huge part of the show, CNN reports that natural hair is making a comeback.
“Women are more educated now and conscious about what it means to be chemical free,” says Taliah Waajid, who taught a course on natural hairstyles at the Bronner Bros. event and has her own line of natural hair care products. “We can be healthy and have a pretty style that is presentable.”
Still, the totally unnatural styles (check out the video above) are the most entertaining: Vibrant colors, interesting shapes and a Hot Tamale theme make for crazy creations Marie Antoinette would flip her wig for.
