Fifteen years ago, at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards, Madonna, Britney Spears, and Christina Aguilera opened the show with “Like A Virgin” and very well stole it. Madonna kissed both pop stars on their mouths, though apparently some people only remember the Spears-Madge smooch. I know this because the cameras famously cut away during Christina’s moment and because Andy Cohen said so during a recent interview on his SiriusXM show, Radio Andy, with Aguilera, who had some accidentally shade-adjacent things to say about the whole ordeal.
Cohen asks, “Did it bug you that they cut away for the Xtina kiss?” She responds:
“It was weird. And you know why they cut away for it? They cut away to get Justin’s reaction. It was a ‘Justin’s reaction’ shot. They were exes, but it was a cheap shot. Okay.”
He follows up with, “I don’t think people realize she made out with both of you,” to which she replies, “I definitely saw the newspaper that day and was like, ‘Oh, well, I guess I got left out of that one.” They banter and she adds, “I had my own performance that night, it was ‘Fighter’ with Dave Navarro, and it was a kick-ass performance, so I was okay with that. She can have the kiss. That’s okay.”
You heard it here: she can have that.
