Gypsy Rose Blanchard Says Prison Wasn’t Much Different Than Living With Her Mom

In a new GMA interview, the woman at the intersection of a pop culture & true crime phenomenon likened her 8 years in prison to living with Munchausen by proxy.

It’s only been a little over a week since Gypsy Rose Blanchard was released from prison, yet she’s already making the rounds.

In her first post-prison interview, Blanchard spoke to Good Morning America’s Deborah Roberts on Friday, and likened living with her mother, Dee Dee, to her eight years behind bars. “Honestly [it] wasn’t that much of a difference,” Blanchard, 32, who was a victim of Munchausen by proxy, said plainly. “But I also had more freedom in prison than I ever had with my mother.”

That said, Blanchard pushed back on any public perception that she conspired to murder her mother because she was a monster. “She had a lot of demons herself that she was struggling with,” Blanchard explained. “I didn’t want her dead. I just wanted out of my situation. And I thought that was the only way out.”

And it was really only a matter of time before a docuseries on Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s return to the outside world was made. In fact, it seemed to have taken absolutely zero time at all. In addition to the GMA interview, The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard—a six-part special that recaps her case with firsthand testimony and follows her release from prison—premiers tonight on Lifetime.

Several “shocking revelations” are promised to be made throughout the series, with some already making headlines. However, the only one I’m able to currently focus on is that, according to Blanchard, men all over the country were angling to be her Prince Charming while she was incarcerated.

“I have so many men that try to date me or write to me, or, try to hit on me,” Blanchard shares in an interview recorded while she was still in prison. Cool. I’ve only ever had one man at a time trying to date me, write to me, or hit on me, and I probably bullied him into it.

Blanchard, as its been reported, is now married to one of those men who became a pen pal in prison, Ryan Scott Anderson (who also takes part in the special). Anderson is a middle school special education teacher from Blanchard’s native Louisiana who began writing to Blanchard in the throes of the covid-19 pandemic after a colleague told him she wanted to reach out to Joe Exotic in prison. Obviously, something about Anderson stuck out amidst all of Blanchard’s other suitors and the rest is history.

“Nothing and no one is going to ever compare to the relationship I have with Ryan,” Blanchard goes on to say in The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard. I’ll note here that in descriptions for the forthcoming episodes, “cold feet and past loves” began plaguing her…

Since Blanchard’s release, the pair have been very active—some might say, too active— on social media, where she’s already accumulated 6.5 million followers. Of late, some doubters have emerged and in response, Blanchard commented the following on one of Anderson’s recent Instagram posts: “Ryan, don’t listen to the haters. I love you, and you love me. We do not owe anyone anything. Our family is who matters. If you get likes and good comments great, if you get hate then whatever because THEY DON’T MATTER. I love you besides they jealous because you are rocking my world every night…yeah I said it, the D is fire happy wife happy life ❤️”

I know, I know. We shouldn’t judge given she’s not necessarily well-versed in social media etiquette just yet. Unfortunately, Anderson—who should be—then replied: “Who said I gave a damn about what these jealous people say anyway, haha,” he wrote. “now come get it Baby…”

The two recently sat down with Entertainment Tonight, in which Blanchard explained she feels it’s important to “clap back” at the skeptics and all the women who are allegedly pursuing Anderson online.

“I hit the block button,” Blanchard boasted. “I’m like ‘hmm, block.’”

Welp. Sounds like she got some warm socks for those cold feet.
