Connecticut State Rep. Tim Larson has a proposal that threatens Halloween as we know it: He wants to move the date from October 31 to the last Saturday of the month. He explains:
“Halloween is [a] fun night for the whole family, but not so much when you have to race home from work, get the kids ready for trick or treating, welcome the neighborhood children, and then try to get everyone to bed for an early school and work morning.”
For those who are old enough to see Halloween as a day for boozing in uniformly slutty ensembles and the occasional tasteless dead celebrity outfit, the holiday is already unofficially celebrated on the weekend. However, it is unfair that there’s only one night when kids can beg for candy. Rather than giving up on the 31st, let’s just agree that people of all ages are free to shake down neighbors for chocolate whenever the mood strikes.
