Here Is the Teaser Trailer for the Second Season of Big Little Lies That Nobody Needs

EntertainmentTV

Tonight is a big night for HBO. There’s the return of that show with the dragons and all the bearded men, for one thing. For another, the network dropped the first official teaser for Big Little Lies’s second season, which is still happening no matter how many times we here at Jezebel have tried to call attention to its gratuitousness.

Though Big Little Lies’s inaugural season neatly wrapped up its framing mystery, showrunner David E. Kelley will spend season 2 digging into the (spoiler alert, I guess) aftermath of Perry’s death. From the looks of the teaser, Jane (Shailene Woodley), Madeleine (Reese Witherspoon), Celeste (Nicole Kidman), Renata (Laura Dern), and Bonnie (Zoe Kravitz) have since earned some notoriety, and are starting to freak out about future retribution. Meryl Streep has also joined the cast as Perry’s suspecting mother, which will likely stir up the already uneasy “Monterey Five.” even more.

Liane Moriarty’s Big Little Lies was a standalone novel and HBO conceptualized the show as a limited, one-season series, so it still feels like adding more twists and turns to the work is an unnecessary indulgence. Still, it appears from the teaser that showrunners were smart enough to work in one new piece of intrigue: Adam Scott’s infamous bushy beard has gone missing from his face. This worrying disappearance seems far more probe-worthy than Perry’s death. Someone please put the Monterey Moms on the CASE.

Big Little Lies premieres on HBO on June 9.
