If you’ve spent a good portion of your life following the Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck love story, aka Bennifer, you know that the pair rekindled their romance in 2021, a whopping 17 years after they broke off their engagement. They got married in 2022 and separated again in 2024. But you don’t just get back together after 17 years if it’s just another fling! I don’t care what anyone says, they are endgame TO ME.
But now J. Lo is revealing details from their divorce in an upcoming interview for Nightline, “For the first time in my life, I feel like I’m free. I’m on my own,” she said in a preview clip on Good Morning America. I know the divorce papers technically say they’re legally split. But what of the stars? The cosmos? That meddling woman we call destiny?
“I had to stop everything, and I took a year off. I canceled tours,” Lopez continued in the clip. “I just decided to be home and sit in what had happened without running away from it through work, through another person, through anything — just sit.” This is surprising since she had two movies released in the past two years: This is Me…Now and Kiss of the Spider Woman. So, she’s been working. Anyway…
“I was just at a point where I was like, ‘What is going on with you?’ Because I couldn’t blame anybody else, because I don’t think that that’s where the lesson is,” Lopez added, “and so I really wanted to figure myself out.”
Taking a hard look in the mirror and doing some inner work does sound super mature. What about you, Ben? Any therapy? Or are we just burying our feelings in $100 million buddy cop movies with Matt Damon?
But now that she’s unpaused her life, Lopez is releasing music again and undertaking a Las Vegas residency. “I’m in my happy era,” she declared.
I guess I concede that it’s nice to see a woman feeling complete without needing a man in her life. But there’s just something about her and Ben…They are predestined. Soulbound. Star-crossed. Any astrologers, psychics, or cool grandmas want to weigh in on my theory? Serious inquiries only.
