Mike Huckabee Hates Rainbow Doritos, Dan Savage and a Charity to Help LGBT Teens

Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee is concerned that Rainbow Doritos are an attack on Christianity—that’s right, tasty corn chips are coming for his sweet, sweet religion.

Here’s the backstory; Dan Savage, longtime Village Voice sex columnist, LGBT activist and co-founder of the It Gets Better Project is working with Frito-Lay to make rainbow Doritos. Proceeds from sales of the special-edition chips go to Savage’s nonprofit.

On Tuesday, Huckabee—well, really his campaign’s angry letter writer—sent a letter to Frito-Lay saying Savage is evil. According to ABC News, Huckabee’s letter writer said Savage has made “very hateful and vulgar comments toward Christians” and called “for violence and injury to people he disagrees with.”

In an earlier letter, Huckabee’s letter writer asked that Frito-Lay please stop contributing the proceeds from their rainbow Doritos to Savage’s nonprofit, which helps bullied LGBT teens. Shockingly, Frito-Lay hasn’t written Huckabee or his letter writer back.

While Huckabee’s attack on delicious corn chips might seem out of place, he and Savage have been at odds for awhile. The outspoken Savage doesn’t appreciate Huckabee’s homophobic views and has used pointed language to get his opinion across about the guy who held that freedom rally with bigoted Kentucky clerk Kim Davis. In fact, on Saturday, Savage called Huckabee “one of the most vile, vicious, violent and vulgar individuals in an organization I’ve ever met.” There is no love lost between the two.

Elsewhere, the One Million Moms mailing list received a dire message topped with an image of the rainbow Doritos beside this question: Anti-Chrisitian Pro-Bullying Snack Chips?
