According to Indiewire, the film is based on a Neil Gaiman story of the same name, and directed by John Cameron Mitchell of Hedwig and the Angry Inch. That should assure us of the movie’s pedigree, but the trailer definitely gives off a very Earth Girls Are Easy vibe—the kind of movie you’d absolutely love as a teen and which will likely garner a cult following, but is still kinda goofy as hell?
Everyone seems to be having fun, including Elle Fanning as the alien love interest of a punk teen played by Alex Sharp. The two run across London, trying to experience as much as they can of the world, presumably before one of them has to relaunch into space. Fanning’s character is a Robo-style alien, discovering things like pooping and chugging a beer with frank appraisal. She also barfs into her lover’s mouth, viewers beware. That’s punk, baby.
