Now Why the Hell Is MTG Suddenly Making Sense??

Welcome back to Barf Bag.

Something has not been sitting right with my spirit of late. Recently, the farthest of far-right members of Congress, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), has been saying things that are….correct? This is a woman who, in 2021, likened mask mandates to the Holocaust, was kicked out of the ultra MAGA Freedom Caucus in 2023 for being too mean to other members, and has spread an antisemitic conspiracy theory about laser beams starting wildfires, which got paraphrased as “Jewish space lasers.”

But in the last six months, Greene has taken multiple positions that are morally right. Here’s an NBC News summary:

She was critical of the Trump administration’s strikes on Iran, referred to the situation in Gaza as a “genocide,” signed her name to an effort to force a House vote to require the Justice Department to release its files related to the Jeffrey Epstein case and, most recently, sided with Democrats in calling for an extension of Affordable Care Act subsidies amid the government shutdown fight.

On that last issue, she wrote on Twitter Monday that, while she does not support Obamacare as a concept, she knows it’s bad news if Congress doesn’t extend the enhanced tax credits that help lower- and middle-income people pay their monthly insurance bill. “I’m going to go against everyone on this issue because when the tax credits expire this year my own adult children’s insurance premiums for 2026 are going to DOUBLE, along with all the wonderful families and hard-working people in my district,” she said. “No I’m not towing the party line on this, or playing loyalty games. I’m a Republican and won’t vote for illegals to have any tax payer funded healthcare or benefits. I’m AMERICA ONLY!!!” (Whether to renew the credits is a key issue in the government shutdown.)

Use of “illegals” aside, what the fuck is going on here? Rumors flew earlier this year that she might run for Senate against Democrat Jon Ossoff, but she has since said that she’s not vying for that office, or for that of governor. So she seems to not be pivoting to a statewide electorate.

Greene is reportedly disappointed that Donald Trump didn’t tap her for a role in his Trump administration after she openly expressed interest in becoming Homeland Security secretary—a role that went to former South Dakota Gov. and ICE Barbie Kristi Noem. NBC reports that Trump himself is flummoxed: “In recent months, he called at least two senior Republicans to ask, ‘What’s going on with Marjorie?’ according to two GOP sources with direct knowledge of the conversations.”

It’s a great question. One thing that’s for sure, however, is that CNN host Wolf Blitzer did too much here when thanking Greene for appearing on his show, rather than her normal haunts of Fox News and Newsmax.

Following MTG's lengthy CNN sitdown interview, Wolf Blitzer tells her: "You‘re a courageous politician, but more important, a loving mother. Thanks very much for coming in. We hope you‘ll come back here in the Situation Room."

In other jarring news, the deeply disturbed commentator Candace Owens was also right about one (1) thing this week. She said in a Thursday livestream that Trump was basically delusional for wanting a Nobel Peace Prize for helping broker a ceasefire in Gaza while making repeated comments about wanting to develop the Gaza Strip. We must note that Owens has previously made many antisemitic comments, but even the United Nations said last month that Israel has committed genocide against Palestinians in Gaza.

In short, it’s been a big week for the worst person you know meme.

Even more barf:

  • Speaking of that Nobel Peace Prize, after Trump didn’t win it on Friday, White House director of communications Steven Cheung laughably claimed the committee “proved they place politics over peace.” OK! [The Guardian]
  • And speaking of the shutdown, top GOP leaders, including Senate Majority Leader John Thune, privately warned the White House not to fire federal employees or cut assistance programs lest voters blame their party for the shutdown. [Wall Street Journal]
  • One of the departments the administration chose to furlough is the Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Office of Detention Oversight, and with surging numbers of detainees, what could go wrong? [Washington Post]
  • A challenge to the Voting Rights Act that the Supreme Court will hear on Wednesday could lead to Republicans redrawing up to 19 House seats to favor the GOP. [Politico]
  • A sheriff in Alabama put up a Halloween display with ICE agents chasing skeletons wearing sombreros. [AL.com]
  • MAGA podcaster Benny Johnson, who recently accompanied Noem for ICE raids in Chicago, posted an AI-generated video of himself as Batman beating up men and women in sombreros. [The Independent]
  • The Pentagon‘s hunt for service members who criticized Charlie Kirk, ordered by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, has led to nearly 300 investigations so far. [Washington Post]
  • Headline: “Turning Point USA will host rival to Bad Bunny‘s Super Bowl halftime show.” [Axios]
