Between controversies over air traffic controllers sleeping and watching movies on the job, they already weren’t having a good week, and now one put the First Lady’s life at risk. Sources say that yesterday a plane carrying Michelle Obama and Jill Biden back from their appearance on The View was forced to abort its landing at Andrews Air Force Base because it was too close to a military cargo jet that was taking off. The mistake was caught by controllers at Andrews, who realized the Potomac Terminal Radar Approach Control (TRACON) facility in Warrenton had let Obama’s plane get too close to the cargo jet, and told pilots that they were further apart than they really were. A FAA manager said the TRACON controller exhibited, “really bad controller technique.”
