Pubic Grooming Leads to Rise in STD Warts

Latest

Shaving and waxing the bikini area is behind the surge in cases of a viral infection that causes warts. According to experts, such grooming methods create a “micro-trauma” of the skin that raises the chance of contracting a pox virus called Molluscum contagiosum that is also sexually transmitted.

Although Brazilian waxes were recently credited with the near extinction of crabs, research would suggest that otherwise, pubic grooming does more harm than good, as it’s proven to be dangerous and hazardous to your health. Now French researchers have found that grooming leads to the spread of “water warts.”

They looked through records of visits to a private skin clinic in Nice from January 2011 to March 2012, and identified 30 cases of water warts infection. All but two of the 30 patients had undergone pubic hair removal.

Interestingly, 24 of the 30 cases were men.
