Rainbow Brite Is Back and Molly Ringwald Is Voicing the Villain

Nostalgia is resurrecting yet another cartoon from our youth. The popular ’80s girl power series Rainbow Brite has earned a reboot, and Emily Osment and Molly Ringwald are on board to voice the main characters. Will we ever grow up? Not likely.

The Hollywood Reporter writes:

Actress, singer, songwriter Osment will voice Rainbow Brite, the girl who embarks on adventures to save Rainbowland from destruction and dark powers. Also returning are Starlite and the Color Kids as the series will deliver what Feeln says is a message of optimism, creativity and friendship.
Ringwald (The Breakfast Club, ABC Family’s Secret Life of the American Teenager) will voice the central villain, The Dark Princess.

The new Rainbow Brite will premiere on Nov. 6 and air three times a week on the video subscription service Feeln, which I had no idea existed until now.

This cartoon comeback is evidently part of a retro trend in Hollywood:

The Rainbow Brite revival comes as nostalgia remains a top draw online and among broadcast and cable networks. Netflix this week announced it was rebooting the Care Bears with a new animated series to join The Magic School Bus, a series based on the 1990s children’s classic, among others.

Well, in that case, you guys can also reboot Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers and Snorks.

Here’s a dramatic Rainbow Brite trailer to get you hyped:

And if you need me, I’ll be watching this for the next four hours.
