Teen Girl Was Allegedly Homeless When Matt Gaetz Paid $400 to Have Sex With Her

It’s barely been a year since we suffered a collective jumpscare at the possibility of sex pest and former Florida representative Matt Gaetz becoming our attorney general. But the nomination was pretty much guaranteed dead on arrival as Gaetz—among many other evildoings—was credibly accused of having sex with a 17-year-old girl.

On Thursday, the New York Times revealed new details from the case—and they’re revolting. According to the girl’s lawyer, who spoke to the outlet, the girl had been homeless and working at McDonald’s when she turned to a website that paid younger women to accompany older men, in what was advertised as a “mutually beneficial relationship.” Hoping to earn enough money to get braces, she signed up (and said she was 18), and found Joel Greenberg—a known buddy of Gaetz’s—who’s currently serving an 11-year prison sentence for sex trafficking. At the time, Greenberg invited the girl to his boat and gave her ecstasy, and would pay her for sex seven times before he invited her to a party hosted by another former congressman, Chris Dorworth (R-Fl.). There, she met Gaetz.

“The vulnerable circumstances most crime victims face are rarely known to the public,” the teen’s lawyer told the NYT. “Although my client’s circumstances were revealed outside of her control, I hope it helps for the public to see a fuller and more human picture of her than the press has reported on to date.”

According to court testimony, the girl was paid $400 to have sex with Gaetz at the party twice that night. In one of the instances, she testified that she was on a pool or air hockey table, and that Dorworth watched and “laughed about it with other partygoers.”

Greenberg’s relationship with the teen was revealed in a separate investigation—one that had been launched after he baselessly accused one of his political opponents, Brian Beute, who worked at a private school, that he’d had sexual relations with a student. The Justice Department sentenced Greenberg to prison in 2022.

Later that year, the girl’s legal team sent letters to Gaetz and Dorworth about a potential financial settlement. She never sued, but Dorworth took legal action. Dorworth eventually dropped his lawsuit—but not before new details were revealed about the teen.

Ahead of publication, Gaetz doubled down to the NYT via text message. “I never had sex with this person,” he said, “This person threatened me with a lawsuit if I didn’t pay her $2.3 million dollars…She never sued me because her story is fiction.” Sure! That sounds like something an innocent person would say.

In December, the House Ethics Committee released a bipartisan report on Gaetz, the findings of which he has repeatedly tried to block and usurp–again, something an innocent person would totally do! (He resigned from the House in November, in what seemed to be an attempt to thwart the investigation. And notably, at the time, House Speaker Mike Johnson also opposed the report’s release. Hmmm!!!) The report, among other things, says there is “substantial evidence” he “regularly paid women for engaging in sexual activity,” and that one of the instances involved a “17-year-old” girl in 2017.

While the article has provoked ire across social media, so far, MAGAworld’s been quiet. (They might be distracted…) But Gaetz remains active on Twitter.

When Trump originally picked Gaetz for AG and called him “a Champion for the Constitution and the Rule of Law,” the decision was quickly, fervently, and openly rejected by both ends of the political aisle. Speaking to Axios, one anonymous GOP congressperson said, “We wanted him out of the House…this isn’t what we were thinking,” another said they were “stunned and disgusted.” So with that—and the committee report threatening to come out—Gaetz fell almost as suddenly as he had risen, and in January, he took to a life of hosting a political talk show on One American Network (OAN), the far-right Trump propaganda network.
