A little more than a year ago today, the Boston Marathon bombings turned an event meant to celebrate everything good about people into something that highlighted the very worst of humanity. Some quietly speculated that the terrorist attacks would deter people from running marathons, that the fear would convince spectators to stay home. But runners and the people who love them are a lot tougher than that speculation gave them credit for; the roar of the marathon-watching crowd was as loud as it’s ever been today. A year later, let’s give it up once again for the people who watch. -EGR
