Hollywood’s ongoing sexist practices are being exposed left and right, and it seems Zoe Saldana has had multiple encounters with inappropriate producers.
In an interview with Philly.com last week (via E!), Saldana—who’s currently promoting her role in the movie Infinitely Polar Bear—recalled the time a producer gave her a backhanded compliment about her appearance:
“A producer once told me he hired me for the way I held a gun while wearing panties, not for my opinions. I wish I’d recorded it, so I could play it for every girl in elementary school and tell them never to let anybody treat them that way.”
This sentiment is right in line with her recent criticism of Hollywood’s tendency to freak out whenever an actress gets pregnant in the middle of production:
“…It will never be the right time for anybody in your life that you get pregnant,” Saldana explained, adding that in 2014, “the productions I was slated to work on sort of had a panic. I heard through the grapevine there was even a conversation of me being written off of one of the projects.”
“Don’t be a woman,” really, seems to be the rule.
