The adorable human nerdburger that is Bill Gates wants to play chess against Uganda’s chess whiz-kid, 17-year-old Phiona Mutesi. Good luck, bro. We’re not sure exactly how tough the game would be for Mutesi — seeing as she’s already earned the title of Woman Candidate Master (WCM) at just 16 years old, and is well on her way to Grand Master status — but hopefully she’ll indulge the old chap.
The captivating Queen of Katwedocumentary short above is about Mutesi, and the game would be part of her U.S. promotional tour for a book of the same name by American writer Tim Crothers, The Queen of Katwe: A Story of Life, Chess, and One Extraordinary Girl’s Dream of Becoming a Grandmaster.
“Bill Gates was impressed with the book and articles about Phiona Mutesi. He approached her benefactor, Katende and asked for a game with her as she toured the US,” highly placed sources in the Uganda Chess Federation (UCF) told the New Vision Sport.
