Chaz Bono Responds To DWTS Fan Backlash

When it was announced last week that Chaz Bono would be appearing on the new season of Dancing With The Stars, the show’s apparently quite-bigoted fanbase took to the internet to express their outrage. Chaz’s mother, Cher, took to twitter to defend her son, and this morning he responded to all of the hoopla himself:

“To be honest, I really haven’t been paying that much attention to it. I’m really kinda just focusing on dancing. … I think it’s a much bigger deal to everyone else than it is to me.”

So Chaz is too focused on cha-cha to give the haters a second thought? Good. As for parents who are concerned that Bono’s appearance on national TV will be “confusing” to children and that they shouldn’t watch, he responded, “I’m just a regular guy.” Fair point: how would a child know that Chaz was born a woman unless someone else (like a parent) clued them in? Bono properly put those who spoke out against him in their place:

“I’m going to be dancing, I’m not up on there talking about anything other than dancing. People who don’t have gender dysphoria aren’t going to catch it by watching me dance on television.”
