Christopher Guest Has a New HBO Show Starring Chris O'Dowd!? Yes!

Latest

We all love Christopher Guest’s mockumentaries, so let’s just get all the bragging about how we watched Spinal Tap in our mother’s wombs and laughed so hard our mom went into premature delivery and we had to be hooked up to all sorts of special tubes for months and got in the local paper for being a “miracle baby” outta the way.

Next up for Mr. Jamie Lee Curtis is Family Tree, a mockumentary series coming to HBO in May. It stars everyone’s boyfriend Chris O’Dowd, and a cast of Guest’s regular performers (and some exciting newbies!). Two great Chrises, together at last — could life get ANY better?! (Don’t answer that. Never answer that!) Honestly, you’re all just lucky my headline wasn’t “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Chrises,” or “CHRIStmas Came Early: Christopher Guest Has a New Show on HBO Starring Chris O’Dowd!?”— count your blessings!

What does everyone think so far? I’m not getting much from the preview, and the cheesy music threw me out of it. I’m sure it’s not representative of the actual show, though, and Family Tree will definitely be all that and a bag of Busy Bees. Now DANCE, bastard people!

Here’s the description from HBO:

Having recently lost his job and his girlfriend, 30-year-old Tom Chadwick has a rather unsure sense of his own identity. But when he inherits a mysterious box of belongings from a great aunt he never met, Tom starts investigating his lineage and uncovers a whole world of unusual stories and characters, acquiring a growing sense of who he and his real family are.
Written and created by Christopher Guest and Jim Piddock, the new comedy series FAMILY TREE is a single-camera, documentary-style show in the manner of Guest’s acclaimed feature films (such as ‘Best in Show,’ ‘Waiting for Guffman’ and ‘A Mighty Wind’). Chris O’Dowd (‘Bridesmaids’) stars as Tom Chadwick in the HBO presentation, along with Tom Bennett and Nina Conti. The series also features appearances by Carrie Aizley, Bob Balaban, Ed Begley, Jr., Maria Blasucci, Matt Griesser, Christopher Guest, Don Lake, Michael McKean, Lisa Palfrey, Jim Piddock, Kevin Pollak, Amy Seimetz, Meera Syal, Ashley Walters and Fred Willard.

SO EXCITED. Get your dance belt and a tube of Chapstick, and let us do this.
