Florida Woman Texts 'Drunk Driving Woo' Before Fatal DUI Accident

Latest

Mila Dago is a 24-year-old woman from Miami who, in August of 2013, was going through a rough breakup, according to the Miami Herald. Driving a rented SmartCar in the wee hours of the morning after a night of partying, Dago sent her ex a slew of messages, the last of which were “Driving drunk woo,” “Ill be dead thanks to you,” and “Lata.”

Three minutes later, according to the Herald, Dago ran a red, smashed into a moving pickup, and killed her passenger, a 22-year-old friend of hers named Irina Reinoso. Two hours after the accident, Dago blew a .178. Dago was arrested in January of the next year.

Reinoso’s family has since filed a lawsuit against Car2Go, the company she rented her SmartCar from, saying “the company should have safeguards in place to prevent drunk drivers from renting unattended cars on the street.” The family thinks Car2Go should install breathalyzers in the vehicles that will prevent drunk drivers from operating the cars.

Dago has pleaded not guilty on all charges, including DUI manslaughter, vehicular homicide, and two counts of DUI with damage to a person. More details about the case at the Herald.
