Fox News Mad that The View Was Totally Mean to Ann Romney
LatestToday’s episode of The View was supposed to boast a double shot of Romney, but when Mitt backed out due to “scheduling conflicts,” his nice wife Ann appeared on the program by herself. And when the hosts of the show asked her about issues rather than gently tossing her nice, Ann-appropriate softballs, the outrage artists at Fox News could not wait to point out the injustice of the whole thing.
To be fair, the soft-focused hosts did ask Ann some kind of pointy questions. Whoopi Goldberg kicked off the interview by asking how she and her husband would console military families who had lost a loved one in combat when Mitt avoided the Vietnam draft four times and none of their five sons had served.
To that, Ann diplomatically replied, “We all find ways of serving.”
They also asked her how she felt about abortion, to which Ann replied, “The good news is I’m not running for office and I don’t have to say what I feel. But I am pro-life. I’m happy to say that.” She also said, “The most important thing we can do is have respect for each other in this dialogue. This is a tender, tender issue,” marking the 1329892713th time during this election season that a Romney has said the word “tender” in reference to an issue that women care about.
This line of questioning deeply upset Fox News, who insisted that during the Obamas’ tandem appearance on the show, the hosts gushed over them and asked them easy questions about romance and hugs — you know, questions Ann Romney would be really great at answering. But that’s not the case. The tenaciously wrong Elisabeth Hasselbeck hammered the President, asking, “Some would ask is it unfair to assume that Mitt Romney may fail the middle class when statistically speaking, they’d argue that your administration is failing the middle class. How do you respond to that?” They also asked him about Libya.
So, yeah, the hosts of The View didn’t let Ann Romney entirely off the hook, but on the other hand, they were under no obligation to. As this election season has worn on, it’s become ever more clear that the Romneys are a family of dicks.
Mitt lived in a mansion in France during his mission, and when he returned to the States, he protested in favor against Vietnam War protesters. So, he protested in favor of other people’s kids getting their legs blown up and stuff. Whoopi’s question was tough, but fair. And a few weeks before suddenly having a sudden last minute “scheduling conflict” that prevented him from appearing on the couch with is wife, Mitt Romney was captured telling a group of private donors,
The View is fine. Although The View is high risk because of the five women on it, only one is conservative, and four are sharp-tongued and not conservative. Whoopi Goldberg in particular,” Romney said. “Although last time I was on the show, she said, ‘You know what? I think I could vote for you.’ And I said, I must have done something really wrong.
Today, Ann Romney helpfully clarified that her husband had said “sharp, young,” not “sharp tongued,” which doesn’t make any sense because Barbara Walters is totally old (maybe she’s taking a cue from the Rick Santorum Blah People School of Backpedaling). And Elisabeth Hasselbeck asked Josh Romney, who was in the audience, about his brother Tagg’s proclamation that he’d like to punch the President, to which Josh responded that of course his brother didn’t literally want to punch the President.
But none of this will deflect Fox from their thesis: The entire world is against you, conservatives. The system is rigged! Reality is a conspiracy designed by the liberal media! And, of course, Ann Romney’s appearance on The View, like her husband’s much more disastrous appearance in this week’s debate, was not as good as it could have been because the moderator and the hosts are in the tank for Obama.
To borrow an adage from a former basketball coach: complaining about the refs is what losers do.
