Hollywood's Most Ridiculous Portrayals Of Jackie O
LatestWord’s broken that Rachel Weisz is set to play Jackie Kennedy in a new movie, but some are skeptical of the casting choice. We say: have you seen any of the previous portrayals? There’s plenty of room for improvement.
There are a lot of movies in which actresses portray Jackie – whether as a Bouvier, a Kennedy or an O. Jaclyn Smith donned a pink suit in 1981. In JFK, Jackie was furtive and pained. And in the past year, Jeanne Tripplehorn picked up the aviators to fix up Grey Gardens. In all, more than 30 actresses have worn the pillbox. And all of them have had absurd accents.
In 2000’s Jackie Bouvier Kennedy Onassis (yes, that’s the title) Emily VanCamp played her as a reserved, sepulchral child.
And by, yes, Sarah Michelle Gellar, in 1991’s “A Woman Named Jackie” as carefree.
in ’01’s The Women of Camelot, Jill Hennessy was histrionic. 1988’s Onassis, the richest man in the world had Francesa Annis battling for Ari’s affection and billions with the volatile Maria Callas (dig Jane Seymour’s dramatic work.) In America’s Prince, Jacqueline Bisset’s aging matriarch was stoic and apparently British.
The bar’s set high, but we think Rachel may have a shot.
