"Hubby's Coming Home" Is One Of The Worst Ads We've Ever Seen


The Hindu is a respected Indian daily. In a recent issue, front-page stories included the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections; Indian-Chinese relations; and…this ad.

Glad as we are to know the term “dirty tummy,” this ad is depressing on several levels. Retrograde sexism? Check. Man-centric universe? Check. Snake-oil “remedy”? Check. And let’s not forget the denigration of exercise!

I can’t imagine that Indian feminists — already facing an uphill battle in a society where women are frequently marginalized — feel so great when they open the paper and see this. On the other hand, maybe they’re used to it? (To that end, knowledgeable insights are welcome below, of course.)
