Lesbian Lizard Kiss from Doctor Who Will Not Face Censors' Wrath
LatestAfter the premiere of the new Doctor Who, featuring a same-sex kiss between a humanoid lizard woman and her human wife, a handful of people complained to the UK’s communications regulator. The regulator’s reply, basically: Yeah, no one cares.
Spoilers maybe?
The Guardian reports that six people (presumably the bankers from Mary Poppins) whined to Ofcom about the scene in which Madame Vastra smooched Jenny Flint “as they were forced to hold their breath as they hid from killer droids,” calling it “gratuitous.” One viewer accused the BBC of “wanting to become a porn channel,” according to the Independent, and somebody griped about the “gay agenda.”
Well, Ofcom didn’t particularly give much of a crap because as far as they’re concerned a kiss is a kiss so everyone can just give it a rest:
Having assessed the complaints, we can confirm that they do not raise issues warranting further investigation. Our rules do not discriminate between scenes involving opposite sex and same-sex couples.
Go back to your lives, citizens. Nothing to see here. Just a lizard woman kissing her lawfully wedded wife, as one does (especially when threatened by killer robots).
