Meryl Streep, Could We Interest You in Donating to an Abortion Fund??

Her seven-figure donation to the National Women's History Museum is very nice, but there are people/organizations/abortion funds living through history right now who could also use some figures, too.

Meryl Streep, Could We Interest You in Donating to an Abortion Fund??

The GOP is setting democracy ablaze; gen Z men are revealing themselves to be worse than boomers; and technocrats are saying yes, they have an anti-women agenda—so finally, Meryl Streep is stepping in.

Kind of. Not really. On Tuesday, Hollywood’s very own majesty (who said in 2015 she prefers to be called a “humanist” over a feminist) announced she’s donating a whopping seven figures to the National Women’s History Museum. “History is shaped not only by those who make it, but by those who ensure it is remembered,” she said in a statement. Which is nice, but history is also shaped by the people who are, you know, living through it now—so does she maybe have another seven figures, or six even, that she could put towards abortion funds!?

Even before Roe v. Wade was overturned, abortions were expensive and rarely covered by insurance. But since the Supreme Court killed Roe in 2022, between abortion bans, TRAP laws, clinics closing, and OBGYNs leaving abortion-banned states, abortion care is becoming harder to access and thus, more expensive. Today, the cost of an abortion alone can cost anywhere between $800 to $2,000. Which is where abortion funds come in.

These organizations help people get abortions—either by helping them get abortion pills or booking an appointment in a different state. They also help book and cover childcare and travel costs, including lodging and transportation. But, as their necessity increased, their funding has shrunk.

Because, despite all the efforts to restrict access to reproductive rights in the U.S., people have not stopped needing abortions. In the first half of 2025 alone, about 591,770 women obtained an abortion. (About 1 in 4 women are expected to have an abortion before they’re 45.)

In May 2024—almost a full year after Roe was overturned—groups like the Colorado-based Cobalt Abortion Fund had already been projected to spend more than $2.2 million that year, based on the fact they’d spent $503,000 on patients in the first three months of that year alone, and post-Roe “rage donations” were drying up. As of February, Cobalt reported that it spent almost $2.5 million on helping people get abortions in 2025, with more than $1.7 million of it going towards paying for the actual procedures—an 84% jump from 2024. Your move, Meryl.

“I am proud to continue supporting [the museum’s] essential work so that future generations inherit a history that is both truthful and complete,” Streep said in her statement. It’s true that the dumbass in charge is trying to erase history, but also—again—there are maybe some more important organizations that could lose a little bit of cash right now. If you’d like to “beat” Meryl, you can find a local abortion fund here.
