Republican Congress Critter and would-be-cartoon villain, Michele Bachmann, is at it again. This time she’s claiming LGBT+ individuals are out to abolish the age of consent in order to sexually assault children.
The Congresswoman would be almost adorable, with her wacky description of some parallel universe only she could possibly think is the world the rest of us live in, if it wasn’t for the fact she still holds a house seat and some people actually listen to her crazy views on the LGBT+ community.
Bachmann was conducting an interview with the conservative talk show Faith and Liberty and it was picked up by Right Wing Watch (Dattch, the lesbian dating app, gets a hat tip here for hilariously describing RWW as “basically like Kids Say The Funniest Things but with Republicans”). And as always, it will just leave your head hurting at the lack of logic employed.
Also they want to abolish age of consent laws, which means we will do away with statutory rape laws so that adults will be able to freely prey on little children sexually. That’s the deviance that we’re seeing embraced in our culture today.
The Dattch Team’s response to this was right on, treating Bachmann’s comments with the lack of seriousness they deserve.
Maybe we missed a meeting or fell asleep during this year’s Big Gay Summit but we don’t recall any major LGBTQ charities or rights groups trying to help us bone kids. Not that we needed help trying to sleep with kids BECAUSE THAT’S NOT WHAT BEING GAY IS. That’s what being a paedophile is and there is a world of difference between the two – the same amount of difference which is apparently between Michele Bachmann’s ears.
Now, I think it’s important to say here that Dattch is definitely not mocking sexual abuse of children. Rather they are, rightfully, mocking Bachmann’s absurd claims about LGBT+ rights groups. I wish such a disclaimer didn’t need to be made, but I think it does.
There is a silver lining though. Bachmann remains completely politically irrelevant, when you consider the wider course of LGBT+ rights in the United States. She’s increasingly seen as a problem by the establishment parts of her own party. Hell, even Fox News anchors think she’s “silly.” And when Fox News anchors think you’re completely out to lunch, well… Once again, the Dattch Team really has the perfect summation here:
Her Republican cohorts who actually have influence will always worry the LGBTQ community but, when it comes her specifically, it’s almost like being barked at by a rabid dog who’s had it’s teeth pulled. You just end up with a dog gumming your arm; not actually hurting you but leaving you covered in saliva and feeling gross.
Excuse me, folks. I need to go take a shower and scrub myself vigorously. Out damned homophobia, out I say!
