Miley Cyrus's Homeless VMA Date Jesse Helt Is Wanted By Police
LatestMiley Cyrus’ VMA date is wanted by the police. A native of Salem, Oregon, Jesse Andrew Helt left home to become a model but during the process found himself homeless and ditching his probation officer back home.
On Sunday, Miley let Jesse accept her MTV Video Music Award for Video of the Year to raise awareness about homeless teens in Los Angeles. Cyrus says she met Helt at My Friend’s Place, a haven for displaced youth in Hollywood, where she was volunteering.
“I’ve survived in shelters all over,” Helt told the VMA audience. “I’ve cleaned your hotel rooms. I’ve been an extra in your movies. I’ve been an extra in your life.”
Helt’s mother Linda spoke to the Daily Mail, saying “Jesse’s had ups and downs like anybody else… he didn’t wanna give up and run on home to mommy, but only he knows the reasons, that’s for him to say.”
Helt has three brothers and one sister and his mother says she has always supported him.
“It was his choice, he was always welcome, he could always come back any time. If he needed help, I’d help him, we help one another,” she added.
But, in addition to publicly breaking his probation by announcing that he smokes weed on Facebook, Jesse chose not to go home. Now there’s a warrant out for his arrest in Oregon for breaking his probation, which he has done quite often in the past several years, according to NBC News.
In 2010, Helt was arrested for breaking into a man’s apartment with a friend because, he told police, the guy had sold them bad weed. At 22 years old, he plead guilty to misdemeanors, criminal trespassing and criminal mischief in Polk County, Oregon. He was sentenced to three weeks in jail along with probation and drug counseling. He then violated probation twice and was offered a classy spot back in jail in 2011 if he didn’t start following the court-ordered rules. Three months later, Helt disappeared. Now if he’s found thanks to Miley, he faces arrest upon returning to Oregon.
But Jesse’s newfound fans won’t have to wait too long to see how this all plays out. Helt’s mother says he’s flying home soon with some cash Miley gave him, though when Polk County police visited her home, they didn’t find Jesse.
