Model Robyn Lawley Says Fuck a Thigh Gap; She Wants Big, Strong Legs
LatestAustralian model Robyn Lawley has made a splash in the fashion world, landing front and center on countless high-profile covers and campaigns. She caused a mini-shit storm (a shit drizzle?) when her photograph was posted on a Facebook page dedicated to promoting the gloriousness of thigh gaps.
Yes, such a page exists (Sad-ass news flash: there are many such pages) and the commenters on said page thought Lawley’s thighs were too big to belong to a human lady (maybe a Godzilla lady, but not a human). They told her so, and after over 900 comments, she decided it was time to set the record straight.
The truth is I couldn’t care less about needing a supposed “thigh gap.” It’s just another tool of manipulation that other people are trying to use to keep me from loving my body. Why would I want to starve and weaken my natural body size? I’m not saying women who have it naturally are unattractive. But I would have to change my entire frame just to achieve something that seems so trivial.
I’ve been trying to do just the opposite: I want my thighs to be bigger and stronger. I want to run faster and swim longer. I suppose we all just want different things, but women have enough pressure as it is without the added burden of achieving a “thigh gap.” The last thing I would want for my future daughter would be to starve herself because she thought a “thigh gap” was necessary to be deemed attractive.
And doesn’t a lot of it have to do with your bone structure, anyway? Like, some super thin people can’t catch the elusive thigh gap and many of us chunkier creatures have it more naturally.
I’m raising a glass (with my gigantor thighs) to toast her! Thigh gap, no thigh gap, don’t all of our thighs bleed red and/or lard?
