North Carolina Mom Arrested for Tattooing a Tacky Heart-Shape on Her 11-Year-Old Daughter

South Carolina may have had its summer fling with questionable-parenting news stories, but it’s fall now, everyone’s been home from vacation for a good long time, and it’s high time we got back to recognizing North Carolina as the slightly colder, more sober questionable-parenting Carolina. According to police in Havelock, NC, Odessa Clay, a woman of many tattoos, illegally tattooed a heart near her 11-year-old daughter’s shoulder.

Despite what Clay might have thought about inking her 11-year-old daughter (she thought it was a-ok, or, as they say in the talking pictures, hunky dory), tattooing someone under the age of 18 is illegal in North Carolina because North Carolina apparently does not like to party. Clay said that she used her own equipment and that her daughter requested a tattoo. Besides, she didn’t even fill the heart in with ink! It’s just an outline, so nbd, yeah? Incorrect — Clay is due in court next month on a illegal tattooing charge.
