Patti Smith Says Her Favorite Song Of 2013 Was Rihanna's "Stay"

At her recent 67th birthday in New York, Patti Smith told an audience”I will now sing to you the 2013 song of the year.” Then, she launched into this beautiful rendition of Rihanna’s
“Stay.”

Never one to cover a pop song ironically, Smith and pianist
Tony Shanahan delivered the lyrics with poise and purpose, even when
nerves caused her to forget a few of the words partway through.

Admittedly, I’ve always been a huge fan of this song, ever since I first heard it last year. But now I have a whole new love for it. I wish there was a version with a little better audio quality, but for now, this will have to do.
