Put Your Dead Lover's Ashes In A Dildo With the '21 Grams' Memory Box
LatestThe five stages of grief are denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. For dealing with death of a lover, designer named Mark Sturkenboom has developed an item that attempts to make that final stage a little easier: a blown-glass dildo that also happens to be a beautiful gold-plated urn. You know, for human ashes.
The toy, first reported by Dezeen, is part of a larger memory box called ‘21 Grams’ – named after the supposed (and almost certainly inaccurate) weight of the human soul.
The box is made from layers of wood, which are glued together and hand-sanded to create the final shape then coated with a pale grey matt [sic] finish. It opens using a gold-plated brass key that can be worn as a necklace, and incorporates an amplifier for playing music from an iPhone that slots into the base. It also contains a scent diffuser and a small gold-plated urn that holds up to 21 grams of ashes inside a blown-glass dildo.
I like how mention of the ash-filled dildo was tossed in at the end of the description. Isn’t this hand-sanded wood gorgeous? Just look at it. Absolutely beautiful. And that beautiful box is where you store the penis-shaped glass that has bits of dead lover’s cremated body inside.
“I tried to open a new window for the way we reminisce about someone and find a dialogue for these feelings people are struggling with when somebody passes,” said Sturkenboom.
There is something undeniably sweet about Sturkenboom’s memory box, I’m just not sure it outweighs those 21 grams of ash.
