Reese Witherspoon Joins the Cool Kids Club With Another Show About Divorce

Latest

Another TV show about divorce is in the works, this time with Reese Witherspoon producing. Divorce is sexy, sheeple.

Witherspoon’s new series, Please Don’t Go, joins Sarah Jessica Parker’s impending divorce comedy, Divorce, for HBO, as well as Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce, which premiered in 2014.

Shonda Rhimes also has Splitsville coming for ABC, and Nicholas Sparks is developing a true-to-life series about a romance writer going through divorce. And though it was unfortunately cancelled, Trophy Wife handled these issues deftly.

While SJP’s project is described as “the story of a very, very long divorce,” Please Don’t Go will focus on a divorce attorney, allowing for storylines about multiple couples despising each other.

According to The Hollywood Reporter:

…The project follows the personal and professional life of a ruthless divorce attorney in Dallas. Raised in the trailer parks of Texas, she has left behind a life of struggle amid squalor, working her way into a corner office and mansion in Dallas’ most prestigious neighborhood. But beneath her facade of togetherness, she’s plagued by self-destructive tendencies and long-hidden family secrets that begin to unravel her life.

THR also notes that “divorce comedies have been one of the bigger trends to emerge this development season as broadcasters look for the family dynamic that isn’t currently on the air.”

Witherspoon is quickly ramping up her production credits; she’s also currently working on a movie about Barbie.
